In a moment like that I could sit here forever. This coming week-end I will be in New York to see all the friends there I haven&#8217;t seen for two years. Steve Turre is part of my first stay in New York, when a friend of Susan came for visit, a jazz enthusiast, and introduced us to the jazz scene. Jazz is following my life since, so does New York and now Los Angeles. Yesterday Sunday I talked to a friend in New York. He came for visit last fall and did enjoy the challenges of Los Angeles. Talking to him I remembered the conversation at the Hammer Museum between the film critic of the New York Times and the architecture critic of the New York Times. The architecture critic lived in Los Angeles for a while before he moved to New York. The film critic still lives in Los Angeles writing for the New York Times. The subject was the nature of Los Angeles in the crossing of film fiction and built reality. I learned: First since Los Angeles is still a historically and culturally unmapped place it is essential that voices form outside bring on their comments and criticism in order to shape something like  identity. Second you can discover in Los Angeles an unknown nature of a city (I knew that before from the &#8218;whatever happened to la&#8216;-panel &#8211; architects in conversation of the whereabouts of Los Angeles. It was the first time when I realized that urbanism here has another meaning than probably anywhere else.)  And this nature is of a sort that allows broadest interpretations in search of a reality. It seems a confusing step from the vacation idyll to a indescribable diversity. It is probably what I am just thinking, from one minute to the other.
