I saw some of his pictures by chance in a gallery on La Brea, Saturday. I was not sure if he was a fashion photographer or more the reporter type. He photographed mostly on commissions for magazines. Represented is the High Society of celebrities. Interesting about these pictures is their ability to reflect these people in their own world, in a way detached from what is around them. Other than you’re used to look at an unreal, staged glitter world by images of this category, these ones have a very strong presence and expression. Inevitably pictures of Bruce Davidson or Lee Friedlander came to my mind. Photographs of people at the other scale of society. People were shown in there immediate environment. They have to live with what they find, they can’t afford anything. The same way these pictures can transcend this context, the same way Slim Aarons pictures reveal another context: people who can afford creating their own world the way they desire it.
