i met Gabriel today, the architect i was working for before I started the present job. i had to bring him some notes and he owed me last payment. he is not part of the ambitious group of architects, he is doing whatever the client is asking for. Mostly just service oriented drawing sets and filing for permit. Susan always speaks bad about his practice (she worked for him temporarily before I took her place). With little respect she just put it in the category of developer projects with no visible attempt to do something good. Or at least try to. It’s a sort of resignation, I think. The business being an architect is extremely demanding and complex. Integrate, direct and accomplish an outstanding design in the construction, planning and real estate environment we have is a nightmare of some sort. I can understand everyone who keeps his live out of it. I didn’t so far, and I don’t know why, because it’s very hard at times and it seems there is no stop. Every time you see a building that looks like something you should honor the architect. Contemplate for a second. I can truly understand someone’s hesitations going through all this.
Good night, and good luck.
